EPICA

Epica adalah salah satu band Progressive Metal/Gothic Metal/Symphonic Metal dari Belanda.

Didirikan oleh gitaris dan vokalis Mark Jansen pada tahun 2002  setelah dia keluar dari Band After Forever .

Mark Jansen pertama memilih nama Sahara Dust untuk band ini. Nama Epica sendiri diilhami oleh album Kamelot, "Epica".

  

Musik Epica adalah perpaduan antara Gothic Metal dan Power Metal dengan music yang cenderung agresif tapi juga kental dengan nuansa ‘epic, agung dan megah’.

Mereka menggabungkan Dua Titik Ekstrim, antara vokal Simone Simons yang berkarakter Mezzo-sopran dengan vocal Mark Jansen yang lebih ‘Death Grunts’.

Epica mampu memadukan kedua titik ekstrim ini ( beauty v.s beast ) dengan sangat baik.

Epica juga dikenal menggunakan paduan suara dan orkestra (terdiri dari dua laki-laki, enam wanita, sebuah string orkestra, tiga biola, dua violas, dua cello, dan double bass), Dengan hiasan tambahan, seperti resital kata yang diucapkan dan lirik dalam bahasa Latin dan bahasa Arab.
